Who has recorded the most records in the jazz cosmos, even two at Kassels ‘Theaterstübchen’? Who just drops by Q-Tip’s studio at the age of 80 to play a bass line live so that the next ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ album sounds fat even in the lower frequency range? Who has played with Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy or Wayne Shorter and many other bop heroes and created their very own sound on the double bass?
The name tells so many stories, they don’t fit into any text, into any single evening, onto any single record, but only into a life. Ron Carter, who claims that as long as he can still carry his bass up to the top floor of his New York flat with his own hands, he will continue to go on tour, comes to the Kulturzelt in Kassel.
There are rumours that this might be his last tour – we would be rather cautious with such statements. The Theaterstübchen and the Kulturzelt Kassel are looking forward to the inimitable sound of this double bass. Dear Ron Carter, what a gift that you will once again pursue your passion at the Fulda and play for us!
